Sibley Lake, not far from Sheridan is a scenic alpine lake surrounded by towering pines, located along the Bighorn Scenic Byway (U.S. Highway 14) at an elevation of 7,900 feet. It is a named for Texas-born Frederick W. Sibley, a lieutenant in the Second Cavalry, under General Crook, who encountered a band of Sioux and Cheyenne Indians near the present-day Lake.

There is a monument near Sibley Lake erected by the Historical Landmark Commission of Wyoming in 1954. The Sheridan Chapter of the D.A.R. named the lake after the brilliant commander.

There is a fully developed campground, with electrical hookups, situated along Sibley Lake off of the Bighorn Scenic Byway.

Directions: From Dayton, WY, take Hwy 14 west 21 miles. Turn left at sign and go 0.4 miles to campground.

Motorized watercraft are not allowed on Sibley, Many people enjoy the peace and quiet when kayaking, canoeing, or fishing for Brown Trout, Rainbow Trout and Yellowstone Cutthroat.
