Sheridan HS Basketball: The 2024-25 Wyoming High School Basketball season tips off one week from today.
Last season the Sheridan High School boys team had the 3rd best scoring offense in Class 4A, but it was not enough to get them into the state tournament.
Head Coach Jeff Martini says the team lost an average share of players to graduation, but did lose a large chunk of that offense, and current players have to find a way to replace that.
As for the girls, they will have to quickly get used to their new role of defending state champs.
The Lady Broncs lost 3 seniors which accounted for a lot of playing time, so incoming players will have to get used to being on the court longer than they were last year.
Head Coach Ryan Sullivan says from what he’s seen so far, Sheridan is not letting last year’s success get to their heads.
Both Sheridan teams will play at the Casper Invitational next week Thursday thru Saturday.
The home opener is scheduled for Thursday, December 19th.
University of Wyoming Basketball: The Wyoming Cowboys came up short in their Mountain West Conference opener at Utah State last night, losing 70-67.
Obi Agbim led UW with a double-double, 17 points and 10 assists.
Kobe Newton also scored 17, while Jordan Nesbitt added in 13.
The Brown and Gold shot 50% for the game and hit 12 3’s, but they were outdone in 3 categories.
The first one was that Utah State found more ways to get to the free throw line.
The Aggies were 19 of 26, while the Pokes were just 7 of 9.
Utah State scored more points in the paint, 36-20 and won the bench scoring battle 26-15.
Wyoming falls to 5-3 on the season, with an 0-1 record in the Mountain West Conference.
The next game is scheduled for next week Tuesday at South Dakota.
University of Wyoming Volleyball: For the second year in a row, UW has qualified for the National Invitational Volleyball Championship Tournament, which is similar to the NIT of Volleyball.
Wyoming is 15-12 on the season and will host Idaho State in the first round today at 7pm.
If they win, the team would play in the 2nd round tomorrow at home vs. the winner between Washington State and Utah Valley.
Mountain West Conference Football: Post-season individual honors have been announced for the recently completed regular season.
Sophomore kick returner Tyler King was the only Wyoming Cowboy named to the first team.
Getting 2nd team honors were junior tight end John Michael Gyllenborg, junior offensive lineman Jack Walsh and graduate linebacker Shae Suiaunoa.
Five other UW players were named honorable mention including place kicker John Hoyland.
Tomorrow at 6pm, it’s UNLV at Boise State in the Mountain West Conference Championship Game.
