In less than six months from now, the Sheridan High School Lady Broncs will have completed their inaugural varsity season on the softball field.
In October of last year, the Sheridan County School District 2 Board Of Trustees approved the formation of a team, and since that time, all start-up costs and fundraising goals from both the team and the district have been met.
Sheridan will be one of 3 new teams joining the sport in Wyoming, with Jackson and Torrington being the other 2, and that brings the total number of teams in the Cowboy State up to 16.
New Head Coach Kristen Czaban says there’s been interest from students not just from Sheridan, but also from Big Horn, Tongue River and Buffalo.
She adds she has a long history in the sport, and that potential players for the inaugural team, will bring a good amount of experience with them.
“I’ve been playing softball since I was just a little girl and I played all the way through college. Even when I moved to Sheridan I played adult rec league and I just loved it so much and I have been coaching since college, so I’m just really excited to stay with the sport and help other girls find the love of the game. About half of the girls that I’ve seen come out have played ball before, if not more than that, and some at a really competitive level with our travel leagues here in Sheridan.”
Practice can start as early as March 10th, and the first game can be played as early as March 20th.
All Sheridan home games and practices will be held at the Sheridan College softball complex.
The schedule is still being worked on.
