Sheridan HS Football: The regular season of Wyoming High School football is complete and now it’s on to the playoffs.
The Sheridan Broncs concluded the regular season this past Friday with a 48-zip win at Laramie, marking the teams’ 5th shutout in 9 games.
Breck Reed returned the opening kickoff 88 yards to get the scoring started.
Quarterback Ty Gilbertson had 2 touchdown passes and ran one in himself.
Kelten Crow had 2 TD runs.
Beck Haswell caught 1 touchdown and had a 57 yard pick 6.
Coach Jeff Mowry says going into that game, the team already had the #1 seed for the playoffs locked up, and as a result, in some ways the players did not play as well as they normally do.
Given the situation, it’s excusable to some degree.

In the first round of the playoffs, the Broncs will rematch the Plainsmen, but this time the game is at Sheridan.
Kickoff this coming Friday is scheduled for 6pm.
Big Horn and Tongue River HS Football: Big Horn tuned up for the playoffs with a 47-8 win at Upton-Sundance.
The Rams will host Worland in the first round.
Kickoff this Friday is scheduled for 6pm.
Tongue River would get a touchdown with 4 minutes to go, and an interception with 1 minute remaining, to close their season with a 21-19 win at home vs. Glenrock.

The Eagles finish the season with a record of 2-6.
Sheridan County HS Volleyball: The Sheridan County teams have concluded their regular seasons and now it’s onto the regional tournaments.
This past weekend, Sheridan split vs. the Gillette teams winning at home vs. Campbell County, and then lost at Thunder Basin.
The Lady Broncs will have the #3 seed going into the regional tournament and will take on Campbell County in the first round.
The 4A East Regional Tournament is scheduled to take place this coming Friday and Saturday at Cheyenne South.
Big Horn won their lone game of the week on Friday at Sundance.
Tongue River went 3-0 in their games this past weekend.
The Lady Eagles won on Thursday at Greybull, Friday at Wright and on Saturday at home vs. Rocky Mountain.
BH and TR will have the top 2 seeds as well as a first round bye in the upcoming 2A East Regional Tournament which is scheduled to begin on Friday at Pine Bluffs.
In the semi-finals, Big Horn will play against the winner between Wright and Sundance, while Tongue River will play the winner between Moorcroft and PB.
Arvada-Clearmont split home games this past weekend.
The Lady Panthers lost at home vs. Hulett on Friday, then rebounded to beat Midwest on Saturday.
A-C has to play in the regional play-in game, which will take place at 6pm today at Hulett.
The winner of that moves on to the 1A East Regional Tournament, which is scheduled to begin on Friday at Guernsey-Sunrise.
The loser is done for the season.
Wyoming High School State Cross Country: North-Central Wyoming teams brought home a number of trophies and awards from the state meet that was held in Cheyenne back on Saturday.
Freshman Lyla Marney of Big Horn is the 2A Girls State Champ.
BH and TR finished tied for 1st in the team standings, and it was the Lady Eagles that won the tie-breaker.
In Class 2A, the top 4 placers on the team make up the team score, based on which place they finish in, and the lowest team score wins.
Teams are allowed to have up to 7 runners on a team, and the tie-breaker was which teams’ #5 runner finished higher in the standings.
The problem was the Lady Rams didn’t have a #5 runner, and Tongue River did, so the Lady Eagles ended up winning the state championship.
For Sheridan, the boys placed 4th overall in 4A and the girls were 7th.
In the 3A Boys race, Buffalo had runners place 2nd, 3rd and 8th, but finished 1 point behind Worland for the team state title.
The Buffalo girls finished 3rd.
Sheridan HS Girls Swimming And Diving: Sophomore Hannah Mowry won the 100 yard fly race, and that would help Sheridan to a 3rd place finish at the 4A East Conference meet that was held this past weekend at Gillette.
The state meet is next week Friday and Saturday at Cheyenne.
Sheridan Hawks Junior Hockey: The Sheridan Hawks enjoyed the comforts of home, as the team swept a 2-game series vs. Rapid City.
Friday’s score was 5-zip and Saturday’s score was 4-2.
In Friday’s game Josh Serino had a hat trick, scoring all 3 in a 7-minute stretch in the 2nd period.
The Hawks have this weekend off from competition and will be back in action next week Friday and Saturday at Bozeman.
The next home games are on November 15th and 16th vs. Cody.
University of Wyoming Football: Utah State would kick a field goal on the last play of the game, to beat the Wyoming Cowboys in Laramie 27-25.
The Pokes switched quarterback duties between Evan Svoboda and Kaden Anderson throughout the game.
Svoboda was 2 of 7 passing for 12 yards and 1 interception, while Anderson was 15 of 24 for 182 yards.
Both of UW’s touchdowns came on the ground courtesy of Sam Scott and Tyler King.
John Hoyland kicked 4 field goals to help the cause.
The Brown and Gold took a 25-24 lead with 1:57 to go in the game, but the opposition made the most of that remaining time.
The Aggies, with the help of their only 4th down conversion of the game, would drive to the Wyoming 22, and then kicked the field goal to win.
Yesterday, the Mountain West Conference issued a public reprimand to Wyoming head Coach Jay Sawvel for his public criticism of officials after the game.
The Pokes next play this coming Saturday at New Mexico.
Kickoff is scheduled for 2pm.
University of Wyoming Basketball: The Wyoming Cowboys won their lone exhibition game of the season on Friday at home vs. the College of Idaho 80-63.
The game marked the debut of Sundance Wicks as Head Coach.
Touko Tainamo led all scorers with 18 points.
Dontaie Allen put in 13 and Kobe Newton added in a dozen.
Former Sheridan HS Bronc Garrett Spielman got a little playing time as well, and had 1 offensive rebound.
The Pokes shot 58% from the field and hit 12 3’s and ended up shooting 57% behind the arc.
The defense held the opposition to 35% shooting.
The season for the Brown and Gold starts one week from today at home vs. Concordia University St. Paul.
As for the Wyoming Cowgirls, they will play their lone exhibition game this Friday at home vs. Chadron State and start their season, also one week from today at home vs. Colorado.
Denver Broncos Football: The Denver Broncos have now won 5 of their last 6 games, thanks to a 28-14 win yesterday at home vs. Carolina.
Quarterback Bo Nix was 28 of 37 passing for 284 yards and 3 touchdowns.
He also ran one in himself.
Catching the TD’s were Nate Adkins, Adam Trautman and Jaleel McLaughlin.
The stat that sticks out the most was that Denver was 11 of 17 on 3rd down conversions.
The Broncos are now 5-3 on the season, and next play this coming Sunday at Baltimore.
Kickoff is scheduled for 11am.
Denver Nuggets Basketball: The Denver Nuggets lost at home this past Saturday vs. the LA Clippers 109-104 to fall to 0-2 on the season.
The Nuggets start a 3-game road trip today at Toronto.
Tip off is scheduled for 5:30pm.
Colorado Avalanche Hockey: The Colorado Avalanche won their 5th straight game yesterday, as they defeated Ottawa 5-4 at home.
The Avs next play today at home vs. Chicago starting at 7pm.
World Series Baseball 2024: Tonight is game 3 as the LA Dodgers visit the New York Yankees.
The Dodgers lead the series 2-nothing.
The team won Game 1 on Friday 6-3 in 10 innings thanks to a walk off grand slam by Freddie Freeman.
LA won Game 2 on Saturday 4-2.
First pitch today is scheduled for 6:08pm.
