A recent Tongue River High School volleyball graduate will continue the sport she enjoys at the college level.
Athena Stanton has signed her national letter of intent (NLI) to play volleyball at Mount Marty University, in Yankton, South Dakota.
The last three seasons she has played varsity for TR and last year she helped the Lady Eagles to a 3rd place finish at the 2A State Tournament.
Stanton says the sport to her can sometimes be therapeutic.
“It just was something to do I think and then I just love the sport and I wanted to see what I could do as I grew out through high school and I guess it’s a way to get my anger out, but I love just being able to have a family by my side and going to somebody who’s not my actual family and having girls who will understand the terms of volleyball, so then I can talk to them about what I struggle with.”
She adds she plans to major in nursing.
The Mount Marty Lady Lancers are part of the Great Plains Athletic Conference within the NAIA.
