The big man on the Big Horn High School basketball court, may soon have his head in the clouds.
Toby Schons, who is the 6 foot 8 inch senior at BH, has signed his national letter of intent (NLI), to play basketball at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University in Prescott, Arizona.
He helped the Rams to back-to-back state runner-up finishes and was a 2-time All-State selection in his high school career.
Schons says he was also considering the University of Wyoming as well as Rocky Mountain College in Billings, but Embry-Riddle not only had an athletic program, it had the type of education he was looking for.
“I’ve always loved aviation since I was a kid and they offered me a great opportunity. It’s one of the best flight schools in the country. Super close to my family, good weather, I mean it’s really the best of all worlds. I’ve just always wanted to fly airplanes for a living so hopefully I can go to the Air Force afterwards. If not I’ll just go the commercial route.”
Schons was recently selected to play in the Wyoming-Montana All-Star Basketball series that will be played next month in Gillette and in Billings, Montana.
Embry-Riddle is a private NAIA university that competes in the Cal-Pac Conference.
The main campus is located in Daytona Beach, Florida.
