Betty Sulik was born on October 10, 1925 in Spearfish, South Dakota to Vance (aka Dick or Red) and Ethel (Riesland) Closson, and grew up in Buffalo, Wyoming. After her graduation from Buffalo High School, and during World War II, she, her parents, and her brother, Eldred, moved to Puyallup, Washington to find work in the shipyards. It was there that she met her first husband, Norris Seat. Their only child, Norene, was born after the war and, not long after her birth, they moved back to Wyoming. Vance/Red and Ethel bought the Invasion Bar in Kaycee. Betty and Norris were divorced, and Betty married Jack Pruss. They had two sons, Vance and Dennis. Jack and Betty owned the Standard station in Kaycee for many years. Additionally, Betty taught piano to many kids in Kaycee, and taught general music in the Kaycee, Sussex, and Sutton schools. When her musical skills were no longer needed, she became a teacher’s aide in the Kaycee school. She also was the pianist/organist for the Methodist Church in Kaycee for many years. Once all her kids were grown and gone, Betty moved to Sheridan and became a teacher’s aide in the Special Education department. She also worked at the Sheridan YMCA. Jack followed her to Sheridan a few years later, and died in 1989. Betty married Chuck Sulik in 1990. Chuck died in 1998.

Betty was always active in the American Legion Auxiliary, belonging to units in Kaycee and Sheridan. She held the offices of Unit President and District President at different times. She was also director and co-director of Wyoming Girls State for a number of years. After her retirement, she volunteered at Meadowlark School in Sheridan.

She is survived by daughter Norene Norris of Tuscon, AZ; sons Vance (Debbie) Pruss of Sheridan, WY; son Dennis (Donna) Pruss of Lubbock, TX; five granddaughters: Devon Jackson, Stacy (Tom) Wright, Marlo (Kip) Slaybaugh, Robin (James) Perrin, Doneece (Robby) Williams, and night great-grandchildren.
