Patricia “Pat” “Patsy” Mauck, 93, lifetime resident of Buffalo, WY, passed away on January 8, 2025, surrounded by family. Patsy was born in Buffalo, Wyoming on August 16, 1931, to George “Pat” Murray and Mary Ellen “Jean” (Burris) Murray. She was one of three girls. She graduated from Johnson County High School in 1949. Through a family connection, she was reacquainted with Darrell Mauck, who was on leave from his service in the Air Force, on Thanksgiving of 1950 where a few sparks flew over the table. They were married the next chance they got when he was home again from the Korean War on September 20, 1951. They were happily married for 56 years before his death in 2007. After they were married, she accompanied Darrell to Savannah, Georgia to finish out his enlistment with the Air Force. When he finished his service, they moved back to Buffalo, WY, where he went to work as a mechanic. During this time, they welcomed their four beloved children; Luanna, Rilla, Darylene & Patrick. Darrell and Patsy raised their family alongside Bob & Dordy Myers, just down N. Carrington Avenue from each other. The cousins say, to this day, that they had two sets of parents and were raised more like siblings than cousins. It wasn’t uncommon for the moms to call each other to inquire about which kids were where. Patsy was a wonderful homemaker and partner in life and business with Darrell, who lovingly called her “Pard”. Through the years, Patsy worked hard to help support her family. She and Darrell ran the Frontier Station for a time, she also worked at Wyoming Bank and Trust, Grandma’s Kitchen, IGA and Idlewild Cafe. Her children remember school clothes shopping at Woolworth’s in Sheridan, using only the dimes she has saved from her waitressing tips. Pat retired after 15 years as the title agent at Johnson Country Title in 1995. Patsy loved spending time and exploring the Bighorns with her family. They owned ten acres, lovingly called, “Our Neck of the Woods”, where family members made treasured memories. If you stepped out of the cabin, you might catch a glimpse of Grandma’s lupine garden, forts carefully constructed by grandchildren, Tonka trucks and fishing poles strewn about, and folks gathered around the fire. After retirement, she and Darrell continued to explore and spend time with family by traveling south each winter pulling their camper with their trusty Dodge pickup. They also had excursions to Alaska, Canada, Mexico and the western U.S. As a 50th anniversary gift from family, they traveled back to Savannah. Pat truly enjoyed riding with Darrell while watching the scenery and picking out wildlife. She loved to play cards, especially Cribbage, and she was almost unbeatable…except for by Darrell. She also loved working crossword puzzles and hosting family get-togethers. Everyone remembers her tapioca, that Darrell always said needed more vanilla, which she made for her family on special occasions, even though she didn’t eat it. Even with all her activities, her highest priority and greatest joy was her family. One would be hard-pressed to find a better mom or grandma! When you arrived at her house, she would shout, “Come on,” and you knew you were wanted there. Patsy is survived by her four children: Luanna (George) Rozentals of Boise, ID, Rilla (Bill) Poniatowski of Buffalo, WY, Darylene (Bob) Mahoney of Sheridan, WY & Patrick (Janet) Mauck of Tonalea, AZ, eleven grandchildren: Sean (Kendra) Rasmussen, Sasha (Maria) Rasmussen, Mierins (Lydia) Rozentals, Brencis (Codie) Rozentals, Chris (Lindsey) Poniatowski, Shannon (Jerrid) Washburn, Gabe (Janna) Mahoney, Laura (Matt) Mahoney, Chelsea Ansted, June Honhongva, Lsa Honhongva, and sixteen great-grandchildren: Nataya, Traece, Isabella, Chiara, Addisyn, Rylan, Claire, Evelyn, Lydia, Henry, Ruby, Brylee, Jaxten, Paige, Ryanne, Shaylynn, and several cherished nieces and nephews. Patsy was preceded in death by her parents, her sisters; Dordy Prosinski and Jessie Timar, her brothers-in-law; Robert Myers, Louis Timar and George Kemmerling, daughter-in-law Diana Mauck, grandson Colby Spradlin, and her husband Darrell. The family would like to thank the staff at Amie Holt Care Center for the love and care Patsy received from them during her time there. At Patsy’s request, a family service will be held in the Bighorns this Summer. A family gathering among the Lupine would bring her joy. “And family, don’t forget to turn the pump off.”
