Adeline “Addie” Cook, aged 93, passed away on July 11, 2024, surrounded by her loving family. Her unwavering faith in the Lord brought her strength and comfort in her last days and throughout her life. Addie was known for her caring and creative spirit, which is evident in everything she did.
Addie lived a whole and vibrant life marked by her passions for sewing, fishing, puzzling and gardening. She also loved work and found great pride in a job well done.
Born in 1931 in Sheridan, WY, to Alvin Homer and Hallie Marion Schoonover, Addie grew up on the family ranch nestled on the Powder River. She graduated from Buffalo High School in 1949. On April 29th, 1950, she married Jim Baumgartner in Buffalo, WY. Together, they had four children: Janet, Jim, John, and Julie and they made a home in Clearmont, WY.
Addie was remarried to Bob Cook from Rawlins, WY, in 1982; Bob passed away later in 2001.
Addie was passionate about sewing, creating beautiful quilts and various hand-sewn items her family and friends will cherish forever. She often donated her quilts to charity, sharing her beautiful work with those in need. Addie also had a deep love for the outdoors. She was an avid fisherman, spending hours in the Big Horn Mountains at some of her favorite fishing holes. In her garden, Addie found solace by growing food for herself and others, and it was a testament to her patience, care, and love for a nurturing life. She shared her talents through the generations; her family will carry on those talents for many years.
Addie is survived by her four children, Janet (K.O.) Riesland, Jim (Shelley) Baumgartner, John (April) Baumgartner, and Julie (Tom) Weber; her four grandchildren, Miranda Camino, Chas Baumgartner, Shelby Baumgartner, and Ryan Baumgartner; and four great-grandchildren, Claire, Emma, Colt and Kye, who will never forget her warmth, generosity, and the life lessons she imparted through her hobbies and a life well lived. Addie is preceded in death by her Mother and Father, Hallie and Alvin Schoonover, brothers Carroll “Schoony” Schoonover and Ray Schoonover, and a nephew, Dave Schoonover. She was a beloved mother, grandmother, and friend, and her legacy will live on in the hearts of those who knew her.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that you honor Addie’s memory by sewing something special, put together a puzzle or take your loved one’s fishing. These were her passions, and she would be delighted to know that others are continuing her legacy.
