Vernon Madsen

Funeral services for Vernon R. Madsen, a 90-year-old Buffalo resident who passed away Monday at the Veterans Administration Medical Center in Sheridan, Wyoming will be held Saturday at 2:00 p.m. at the Harness Funeral Home Chapel in Buffalo.  A visitation will be held on Friday from 1:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. at the Harness Funeral Home Chapel.  Interment will be in Willow Grove Cemetery with Military Graveside Services to immediately follow the funeral. Donations in Mr. Madsen’s memory may be made to the Sheridan V.A. Hospital at 1898 Fort Road in Sheridan, Wyoming 82801.  Online condolences may be made at www.harnessfuneralhome.com

Vernon Richard Madsen was born August 9, 1933, in Plentywood, Montana to Marius and Dorthea Madsen. He grew up and went to school in Plentywood.  After school, he worked on a farm.  He joined the U.S. Army in 1951 and served in Korea during the Korean War.  After an honorable discharge, he returned to Plentywood and worked at jobs in the oil fields.  He was married in Buffalo, Wyoming in 1964 to Hope Mennell and they made their home in Casper, where he continued in the oil fields.  In 1995 he retired and moved to Buffalo.  Mrs. Madsen passed away in 2004 and Vernon continued living in Buffalo until his death.

Vernon enjoyed photography, woodworking, taking drives in the mountains, and working in his yard.  His passion was spending time with his grandkids. He is survived by one son, Miles Madsen and his Myrna of Craig, Colorado; one daughter, Vernetta Madsen of Gold Canyon, Arizona; one brother Glenn Madsen of Ellensburg, Washington and three grandchildren, Haley, Aidan, and Shelby Madsen.  He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, three brothers and two sisters.
