Carolyn Hackworth

Funeral services for Carolyn Hackworth, a 59-year-old Buffalo resident who passed away late Monday the 25th of September, will be held Saturday, October 7 at 4:00 p.m. at the Veteran’s Home of Wyoming in Buffalo with Pastor John Beck officiating. Interment will be in Willow Grove Cemetery in Buffalo with military graveside services to follow the funeral.  Donations in Carolyn’s memory may be made to the Veteran’s Home of Wyoming at 700 Veteran’s Lane in Buffalo, 82834.  Online condolences may be made at www.harnessfuneralhome.com

Carolyn Alice Hackworth was born on November 11, 1963, in Casper, Wyoming to Wesley and Grace Anne Brummett. She grew up and went to school in Casper and graduated from Lighthouse Baptist Christian High School in 1981. After high school, she attended Casper College and later worked as a bank teller and hotel night auditor. In 1982 she married Keith Layton in St. George, Utah and they were sealed in the St. George LDS Temple that same day. Keith and Carolyn made their home in Casper and later in Lyman, Wyoming. Following a divorce, she married Tim Hackworth in 1989 and they lived in Fayetteville, North Carolina.  They were divorced in 1992 and Carolyn joined the U.S. Army that same year and served during the Bosnia and Herzegovina conflict as an MP which ended with the crucial participation of the United States in brokering the 1995 Dayton Peace Agreement during the Gulf War.  She received an honorable discharge in December of 1995.  She later attended the University of Houston Downtown where she graduated from the Criminal Justice Training Center as a licensed peace officer. In 2000 she moved to Casper where she was a hotel auditor. In 2018 she moved to Lusk, Wyoming, and continued working in the hotel industry until ill health forced her to retire.  She became a resident of the Veteran’s Home of Wyoming in April of 2023 where she lived until her death.

Carolyn enjoyed crocheting gifts for family members and had a passion for genealogy. She also enjoyed camping, fishing, and hockey games.  She loved going on adventures and playing with her grandchildren. Carolyn requested that all those attending her funeral wear casual clothes or Western wear. She is survived by one daughter Kris Screetch and her husband Alex of Killdeer, North Dakota; one son Kenneth Layton, and his wife Marriha of Sidney, Ohio; one brother Wes Brummett, and his wife Robin of Casper, Wyoming; two sisters Margaret Reynolds and her husband Troy and Brenda Flynn and her husband Kevin all of Casper.  She was preceded in death by her parents.
