Local Mountain Climber Darren Rogers has now completed his 5th assent out of the 7 Summits, the highest peaks on each continent. The latest adventure for Rogers was Mt. Vinson in Antarctica where he spent the first part of the new decade. One of the first things he mentioned experiencing during his trip was the sudden weather changes brought about by wind gusts that made it difficult to maintain a comfortable body temperature. He referred to the area as the driest, coldest, windiest, most desolate and inhospitable continent.

Before enduring a several day weather delay, Rogers team took 5 grueling days to reach the summit of Vinson where he described the conditions as windy and between -15 to -20 degrees. With 5 mountains conquered, including Mt. Everest in Asia, the only two climbs standing in the way of Rogers completing the 7 summits are Denali in North America and Carstensz Pyramid in Australia. Be sure to tune into news talk 930am KROE or 103.9fm for Public Pulse on Thursday January 30 to hear more about his adventures.
