The Skijoring and bike race events scheduled for the 2022 Sheridan WYO Winter Rodeo has been canceled due to lack of snow.
Many other events will continue, according to Executive Director for Sheridan County Travel and Tourism Shawn Parker.
Parker and his team of organizers for the 2022 Sheridan WYO Winter Rodeo held out hope for snow as long as possible, but had to announce the skijoring cancellation.
“… it is no longer feasible that we will be able to host skijoring this year,” Parker said in an email. “Many other organizers in our region are facing the same issues with lack of snow, and have either canceled already or will make their announcements in the coming days.”
According to Parker, the rodeo weekend, Feb. 19 – 20, are forecasted to be warm, above 50 degrees fahrenheit. Melting much of what little snow exists.
Parker said it’s not all bad news though, many of the other events scheduled as part of the 2022 Sheridan WYO Winter Rodeo will continue as scheduled.
“Antelope Butte’s kickoff event, scheduled for next Saturday, Feb. 12, is a go,” Parker said. “So is the Black Mountain Nordic Club Moonlight event at Sibley Lake, also scheduled for the 12th. The Snow Ball at the Barn in Big Horn, is still scheduled for Feb. 17.”
Parker continued the announcement by asking sponsors to contact his office for a refund or allow a rollover into 2023.
“There would be no additional cost for next year. Just let me know, and we can make the proper arrangements,” Parker said.

Seems I remember suggesting having the event at the fairgrounds. In fact. I know I mentioned it. Snow could have been piled and ready to go!
Was your ego in the way, Mr. Parker?

Ed how would it make any difference if it was the fair grounds ? You think it magically has snowed a bunch at the fairgrounds, just missed everywhere else? No matter where it was held the plan was to truck snow in. There isn’t enough snow anywhere around here why do you think it would matter if it was scheduled for fair grounds? This whole winter rodeo idea will only work every so often. Probably time to stop wasting your time and money planning an event like this. A town on the plains of the west won’t have enough snow every year to make this work.

Ezra, I still have piles of snow at the edge of my parking lot. A 30 space parking lot. Now snow that was cleared from the streets of Sheridan could have been piled at the fairgrounds in preparation for the winter rodeo. There would have been plenty. Does this make sense now, Ezra? Because I can go in deeper if you are having trouble getting a grasp.
