United States Attorney for the District of Wyoming Bob Murray announced that 54-year-old Dalco Gabriel Whiteman of Riverton was recently sentenced in federal court on two counts of aggravated sexual abuse and four counts of abusive sexual contact. Chief District Court Judge Scott Skavdahl sentenced Whiteman to 71 years in prison to be followed by 15 years of supervised release and ordered him to pay a fine of $1,000 and a special assessment fee of $600.

Whiteman was found guilty following a jury trial in September when the jury convicted him for being responsible for sexually abusing multiple children on the Wind River Reservation over the course of a 25-year period. Six victims, several of them unknown to each other, testified at the trial that Whiteman had sexually assaulted them, some of them on numerous occasions. FBI Denver Division Special Agent in Charge Michael Schneider said that hopefully the lengthy prison sentence brings a sense of justice to the victims, who suffered from decades of abuse. The case was investigated by the Bureau of Indian Affairs with assistance from the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
