Former Johnson County School Board member Nicole Novotny-Wonka will be serving on Governor Mark Gordon’s “Re-imagining and Innovating the Delivery of Education” or RIDE Advisory Group.

During brief presentation to the school board at this month’s meeting, Novotny-Wonka said she has been coming to the school board meetings to stay “in the know” on education issues to be better prepared to serve on the advisory group.

She is also considering forming a local parent group and explained why.

She spoke specifically about a policy later discussed by the board concerning the district disciplining kids for certain occurrences outside the schools or school activities that she felt needed to be looked at again and simplified.

The district’s Student Discipline Policy was later voted on and sent back to the Policy Committee for revision to be brought back before the board.
