A fast moving fire that is now on the North Cheyenne Indian Reservation in Montana has jumped a major highway.
The Rosebud County Sheriff’s Office reports that sometime before 3pm on Wednesday, August 11th, the Richard Spring Fire jumped US Highway 212 between Lame Deer and Ashland and the road is now closed.
The fire has burned around 150,000 acres and is 15% contained as of 10am Wednesday.
The towns of Lame Deer and Ashland remain under evacuation orders.
Fences are being cut to evacuate livestock.
Horses can be taken to the Colstrip Saddle Club.
Other evacuation shelters have been set up in Busby, Crow Agency and Broadus.
The fire has also jumped the Tongue River in a few areas north of Ashland.
A Type 2 incident team is now battling the blaze.
