The Sheridan County YMCA and the Food Group of Sheridan have joined forces to fight hunger and keep kids active this summer season.
The two organizations will operate a pilot program exploring interest and need in the community. The Food Group will provide nutritious meals and snacks while the YMCA will organize and operate fun activities and games to keep kids in Sheridan fed and active during the summer season at no cost to parents.
The Y and the Food Group will arrive at the North Heights Park every Wednesday evening at 4:30 p.m. All children are welcome. The park is located across the street from the intersection of North Heights Drive and North Heights Road.
While appearing on Sheridan Media’s Public Pulse, YMCA executive Director Liz Cassiday told listeners she would like to see the program grow in the hearts and minds of the community much like the ice cream trucks many remember from childhood.
The Y and the Food Group are using this opportunity to test the interest in the program. Based on the attendance and interest from parents in the community, the two organizations would like to expand the program to locations all over Sheridan.
