The Sheridan County Commission has approved a Conditional Use Permit (CUP) application from the Wyoming Department of Transportation (WYDOT) to operate an asphalt mix plant on a 43-acre property they own near Ranchester.

County Planner Mark Reid explained more about the application to the commission.

Mick Brinkerhoff, resident engineer with WYDOT, explained that, if approved by the county, WYDOT will be using the plant for projects during the next 10 years, although no projects were specified with the application.

The five conditions recommended by the Planning & Zoning Commission are:

  1. The permit shall be effective for 10 years commencing on the date approved by the BOCC.
  2. The site perimeter shall be staked prior to hot mix operation.
  3. The activity shall avoid disturbance of existing natural slopes exceeding 20%.
  4. The plant may operate six days per week, Mondays through Saturdays during WYDOT projects.
  5. That within six months of completion of the WYDOT project, all hot mix plant equipment and waste shall be removed from the site.
