Anticipated July session will focus on education funding and ARP spending

During the recent session lawmakers could not agree on how best to cut Wyoming’s education spending.
The Senate disagreed with not only the proposed cuts in the House bill but also a proposed conditional sales tax that would be levied should reserves drop below an agreed amount.
With no resolution to the $300 million deficit in education funding, lawmakers may be meeting again in July, according to House District 29 Representative Mark Kinner.
While appearing on Sheridan Media’s Open Lines, Kinner informed listeners lawmakers will also be tasked with spending federal funds from the American Rescue Plan once guidelines are provided to the state.
With the various committees meeting in May and June, Kinner anticipates a shorter session in July.
Currently, much still remains unknown. Although spending guidelines are not expected to arrive until May, the federal government has given states much more flexibility in regards to the timeline of the ARP spending. According to the Governor’s Office, unlike the federal CARES act funding, Wyoming will have nearly four years to spend the funds.

Education or sports: pick one. If parents want sports, they can help pay for it separately.
Also, when the ‘benevolent’ federal govt. has money available, there are ropes attached. You dont want to have critical race theory taught in schools? Too bad. If you would rather biological males not use the the girls locker rooms and rest rooms, or participate in girls sports? Tough luck.
