Signs at walk-in areas around the Brook Mine have been changed.

Jeff Barron, project manager and associate principal of WWC Engineering, said signs were required along the perimeter of the mine by permit documents that have authorized mining to resume.

Barron said the “no trespassing” component has been eliminated from signs anywhere there is a walk-in area around the mine site north of Sheridan.

Commission Chairman Nick Siddle said the action was appreciated, because there was some public confusion regarding the issue.

Barron gave his presentation on behalf of Brooking Mining Company LLC, which is a subsidiary of Ramaco Carbon. In December of last year, the Wyoming Department of Environmental Quality dismissed an appeal against the company, clearing the way for Ramaco to proceed with development of the mine. The action allows Ramaco to proceed with plans to use coal ultimately for the manufacture of advanced carbon products and materials.

The Brook Mine is the first new coal mine in Wyoming in over 40 years.
