Bighorn Airways will offer 11 weeks of free ground school starting this month.

Training courses will be offered from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesdays from Feb. 17 through May 5 in Bighorn Airways’ training room at the Sheridan County Airport.

Kristopher Austin, a certified flight instrument instructor with Bighorn Airways, said this isn’t the first ground school the business has offered.

Because of COVID-19 restrictions, Austin said the class sizes are being limited for social distancing, and those who want to attend are asked to call to reserve a seat. He said those who attend are also asked to wear masks until that requirement is lifted.

Austin said ground school provides people with the information they need to know before they go up in a plane – topics such as introduction to flying, aircraft systems and flight instruments, charts and flight planning. Part of the class, he said, will focus on maps and navigation.

But, he said, there will be a raffle of one free hour of flight training for one participant in the class.

Those who want to take the course are asked to call Bighorn Airways at 672-3421, go online to www.bighornairways.com or email k.austin@bighornairways.com. Walk-ins may be accepted based on availability of space.
