In a press release, Sequel Youth and Family Services has announced they will initiate a plan to close Normative Services Academy in Sheridan.

In the release, Sequel stated that the company is passionate about providing excellent programs that make permanent, positive changes in the lives of the children and families that they  serve. But after an evaluation of viability of the Normative Services program, the company has decided to close the program effective March 22, 2021.

Over the next two months, Sequel stated they will be working collaboratively with families, state agencies and case workers to transfer the students under their care  to appropriate programs with the therapeutic support necessary for them to be successful. During that time, they will maintain all regulations and staffing ratios.

According to Sequel, the students are their top priority, and they will work to minimize any interruptions to their continuity of care. The release stated this action is being done proactively and is not in any way related to any issues or concerns with the care and high quality services provided by Normative Services.

The company employs over 90 full time staff members in a variety of positions at Normative Services. In the release Sequel stated the leadership team will work with each staff member to provide various employee assistance initiatives, including internal and external job placement, resume review, stress management and resilience support.

In the release Sequel stated:

Normative is very appreciative of the support provided by many people in the Sheridan community. Former students, employees, and volunteers provided hope in a desperate time for kids.

Many of our students had never experienced the love and acceptance provided, until they came to stay with us. Dedicated employees and volunteers of Sheridan persevered through many difficult situations to demonstrate our mission in word and action. The compassion will never be forgotten.

In an email to Sheridan Media, NSI Director Clayton Carr stated:

“At Sequel, we consistently evaluate our programs to ensure we are meeting the needs of our clients. Due to decreased demand for services at this location, we have made the difficult decision to close the Normative Services Academy. We are very proud of the staff at NSI, who have impacted the lives of thousands of youth over the past 30 years.”

I’m concerned about our ‘variant’ youth. Create an extension of the county penal system? Funded by 1c sales tax?
