Ron RichterAn ordinance that would limit the time a recreational vehicle can be parked in a RV park to one month was an item of discussion at Monday night’s Sheridan City Council study session. City Councilman Steve Brantz voiced his concerns over the 30 day limit.
The ordinance would apply to all RV parks in a B-1 zoning district. City Public Works Director Lane Thompson said the purpose of the ordinance is to prevent RV Parks in this zoning from becoming quasi manufactured home parks. The Council will consider the ordinance on first reading at an upcoming meeting.

Shouldn’t it be the property owners decision how long RVs park at their facility? It seems like over rech from the city council/government.

My husband and I travel in our RV semi full-time and we generally 1-3 months in a location that we enjoy. We also spend money in those communities which I would think your city council members would welcome.

All the things happening around us and this is what someone is worried about? Too much government outreach is not a good idea. This is a slippery slope. Next up; the council discusses parking lot lines for personal driveways, property owners can be ticketed for not parking properly on their own property.

I am against limiting the time that a person can stay at a campground or RV parking in out City. There are people fleeing places that have become unsafe for them. If that means coming to Sheridan as a safe haven, then so be it. Let’s face it, living in a camper long term is not ideal and most people do not opt for it. However, due to economics some people are forced to live in campers. It is sad but true. Who are you to say that a person should live on the street instead having a home on wheels. Please publish the names of those who initiated this conversation and those who are in favor of this limitation so that we do not vote for them again.

How about we raise taxes on rentals and house flippers so that it is no longer super profitable for those people to destroy the local housing market in a way that forces more and more people to live in campers year round? This is directly targeting poor people who are cutting costs and doing what they can to stay in the area. Pathetic.

Your answer is to penalize people who upgrade the city’s houses and provide rentals? I bought and remodeled a home and then sold it after renting it out for 9 years, there is not much profit and it is already heavily taxed as a capital gain.

What happens when all the houses in town cost $300,000 and up? Make a slum out by Clearmont and ship our hourly workers in from there? The cost of homes in Sheridan has outpaced the residents actual wealth. When your business is flipping houses, you have to keep doing it regardless of the economy or you go out of business, this results in rising housing prices. If the home owners upgrade their own property, property values keep pace with actual community wealth much better.
And landlords that can do math understand that if they can some how cause house prices to rise and rental availability to decrease, they can make more money and have a stranglehold on the market. A perfect example, the largest apartment landlord in the US has kept rates up while taking units off of the market and renting them out as Airbnb units because they make more money. This time last year there were over 85 stand alone houses in the Sheridan area being rented out as Airbnb units. Our hyper commercialized culture has turned us in to a people who would let our neighbors go homeless if there was a little profit in it for us.

Proposed R V Park Regulation. This is a classic example of Government Over Reach . Don’t you think its been a tough enough year for businesses? Are you trying to discourage Tourism? You are telling people to come to Sheridan, But after 30 days , Get the hell out. Maybe people should avoid Sheridan altogether.
