The Sheridan County Conservation District and USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service in Sheridan County are now accepting applications for water quality improvement projects.

Acceptance is for projects under the Tongue River Regional Conservation Partnership Program, and deadline to apply for 2021 projects is Feb. 12.

The Regional Conservation Partnership Program is a USDA program that uses public-private partnerships to improve land and water resources. The Upper Tongue River Watershed is one of two projects in Wyoming that were selected for funding under the program in 2015.

According to the conservation district, the Upper Tongue River Watershed project was developed as a partnership that includes the Nature Conservancy, the Sheridan Community Land Trust, Sheridan County Conservation District and Wyoming Game and Fish.

The program includes funding for projects within the Tongue River Watershed, including the Goose Creek and Prairie Dog Creek watersheds within Sheridan County.

Projects eligible for funding include, among others, fencing and stockwater for riparian area and grazing management improvements, irrigation diversion and infrastructure improvements.
