U.S. Sen. Cynthia Lummis condemned the actions of protesters who stormed the U.S. Capitol on Wednesday as an “attack on democracy.”

“Call it what it is: An attack on the Capitol is an attack on democracy,” Lummis wrote in a Twitter post. “Today we are trying to use the democratic process to address grievances.”

Protesters stormed the Capitol on Wednesday afternoon in support of President Donald Trump, who believes he didn’t lose the presidential election in November against former Vice President Joe Biden.

The event occurred as members of Congress met in a joint session to certify the results of the Electoral College vote, which appeared to verify the victory of the Democrat Biden.

Lummis was one of 11 Republican senators to announce they would object to the certification of the Electoral College vote until an audit can be conducted in states where Trump has alleged voter fraud occurred.

The invasion of the Capitol followed a “Save America” rally where Trump thanked Lummis for her support and criticized U.S. Rep. Liz Cheney, who has urged fellow Republicans not to object to the outcome of the Electoral College.

Lummis said the invasion hurt the ability of Congress to address complaints about the election.

“This violence inhibits our ability to do that,” Lummis wrote. “Violent protests were unacceptable this summer and are unacceptable now.”

She also retweeted a message from U.S. Rep. Steve Scalise, adding her own note.

“The First Amendment only protects peaceful assembly. Stop the Violence,” she said.

Ms Lummis thank-you for objecting to the certification of the electoral college vote until the audit is completed! Ms. Lummis? News Flash: Well behaved protesters rarely make history and seldom accomplish much……… I might also remind you that the Capital does not belong to the politicians, it belongs to the people who “stormed!”

2 thoughts-first would 30% of the electorate believe that the election was unjust if the Trump cadre had not spent the last 4 years telling them that the election system was corrupt without any proof (and please don’t rehash the you tube videos I’ve looked at them and also the videos of the Loch Ness monster- they appear equally convincing to me. Second- if the people who stormed the capital had been BLM what would your response have been? Shackle or shoot I suspect.

Well Behaved protesters rarely make history?????? How about the March to Selma, Ghandi’s protests in South Africa and India and OH Yes that little thing called the Boston Massacre and then there was a Little Tea Party in Boston too. There is a LONG list of non-violent protests that have made history and changed it. Democracy offers many ways to make your point but this day is a stain on our great country. When our elected legislators have to seek shelter, when our sacred US Capitol is invaded/ damaged, when people are killed, then those protests become riots and sedition. I am sure there were well meaning people today, they just listened to the lies spread by Donald J. EGO…

Get the facts before you bash. There’s lots of footage of Trump supporters yelling at those crazy fur guys to stop. They we’re chanting “stop Antifa” as they were pulling them away from the windows. We do “believe his lies” and the lies of thousands of affidavits claiming voter fraud in their state. All we wanted was a challenge of the states that changed their election rules unconstitutionally! People with nothing to hide, hide nothing. Liz sucks…and now we know to start looking for her replacement.
