Pat BlairThe deadline is nearing for taxpayers who filed an extension for their 2019 income taxes.
The extension grants a taxpayer until Oct. 15 to file his or her taxes, and that date is next week. According to a news release from the Internal Revenue Service, taxpayers should file their returns on or before the Oct. 15 deadline, and those who still owe money should pay as soon as possible to reduce any penalties and interest.
Electronic filing options, including IRS Free File, are still available. And while Oct. 15 is the last day for most people to file, members of the military and others serving in combat zones typically have 180 days after they leave the combat zone to file returns and pay any taxes due.
Also, according to the IRS, several payment options are available to help taxpayers who can’t pay in full. More information is available at IRS.gov/payments.
