A new superintendent for Sheridan County School District 2 could be chosen on Feb. 1.

That’s according to the timeline outlined in a meeting of the district’s trustees this week.

Current Superintendent Craig Dougherty announced at the board meeting last month that he will retire effective June 30. At the trustees’ meeting this week, Cyndi Magee, the district’s human resources director, said notice of the position was posted on Oct. 1, and those interested in applying for the position have until Dec. 7 to do so.

Magee said candidates will be screened from Dec. 8-10, and candidates will be selected for interviews on Dec. 11.

Magee said candidates’ references will be checked from Dec. 14-18. She said candidates will be interviewed on Jan. 25 and 26, and a community forum for all candidates will be held on Jan. 26.

According to the proposed timetable, a special board meeting of trustees will be held on Jan. 28 to discuss the candidates and offer the position. The position will then be offered to a candidate on Feb. 1. The new superintendent would start work on July 1.
