A petting zoo featuring a host of critters from dogs and cats to chickens, ducks and even a turkey kicked off the observance of National 4-H Week in Sheridan this weekend.

The week-long celebration in fact doesn’t start until Monday, but members of the Critters, Crafts and Cooking 4-H Club got an early start, with Sheridan’s Tractor Supply Co. hosting the zoo Saturday.

The club’s adult leader, Chandra Hendricks, explained.

Hendricks said other animals that club members brought for the event included a guinea pig, goats, rabbits and at least one pig.

Sheridan County 4-H Educator Emily Swinyer said other 4-H events this coming week will be online through the 4-H Facebook page. Each day of the week will focus on a different event, starting with “Membership Monday,” when visitors to the page can learn how to join 4-H and get details about the local clubs.

On Tuesday, project-related trivia will be posted all day, and on Wednesday, 4-H leaders and members are encouraged to wear “4-H swag” to school and work and post photos of themselves on social media.

Thursday will be “Throwback Thursday,” when 4-H members and former members are encouraged to share memories and post photos of themselves, and on “Fantastic Leaders Friday,” 4-H members are encouraged to post photos of their favorite Sheridan County leaders.
