Pat BlairSheridan Memorial Hospital’s annual 5-Year-Old Birthday Party will look a little different this year.
In observance of COVID-19 restrictions, the party to be held Saturday will be a “drive-through” arrangement in front of the Welch Cancer Center.
From 10 to 11 a.m., hospital volunteers will deliver balloons and goodie bags full of snacks, toys, candy and special treats to each 5-year-old and his or her siblings. Children and adults are asked to stay in their vehicles, and the volunteers will bring the treats directly to them.
Jasmine Slater, with the hospital’s volunteers and development, said “Blue” and some favorite storybook characters will be on hand. She said everyone will be wearing masks.
The Hospital Auxiliary has sponsored the 5-Year-Old Birthday Party since 1959, when the first party was held to celebrate the fifth birthday of all babies born during the then-new hospital building’s first year in 1954.
The Welch Cancer Center is located just west of the hospital.
