CTG Director and Actors talk Steel Magnolias
The Sheridan Civic Theatre Guild is presenting Steel Magnolias by Robert Harling as part of its 2025-2026 season at the WYO Performing Arts and Education Center.
The story centers on the bond between six Southern women in Louisiana as they navigate life, love, loss, and mortality. Set largely in a beauty parlor, the story follows Shelby’s struggles with her health, her marriage, and motherhood.
Directed by Jennifer Smith, unlike the popular 1989 film adaptation, the stage version focuses on the women and their relationships.
Smith recently appeared on Sheridan Media’s Public Pulse along with CTG actors Teresa Garrett-Martin – playing M’Lynn Eatenton and Kathy Pavatt – playing Clairee Belcher.
Smith told listeners the quality of the play itself, the themes and writing make this play timeless, but it’s the experiences and the bonds created by the cast she looked forward to the most.

Martin plays M’Lynn. Finding the character was easy for her as the responsibilities and challenges faced by the character are faced by many women.

Overcoming her own self-doubt, Pavatt auditioned with hopes to receive a small part. Now she is playing Clairee Belcher, a pivotal character. Belcher is a sassy ex-mayor’s wife who has to face new challenges of her own.
