Special Exemptions Resolution

Details of a resolution allowing for the Sheridan City Council to grant special exemptions to property owners affected by a recently approved zoning ordinance were presented at this week’s Council study session. Sheridan Media’s Ron Richter has the details.
On April 7, the City Council approved Ordinance 2287 on third and final reading. The ordinance amends the M-1 zoning district to add heavy industrial uses to the list of uses requiring a Special Exemption by the Board of Adjustment, and creates a new M-2 zoning district that would allow for light and heavy industrial uses with no special exemption required. The Council also approved a resolution at the April 7 meeting authorizing the governing body to grant Special Exemptions to M-1 property owners with an existing heavy industrial use that would be impacted by Ordinance 2287. The city-initiated special exemption process terminates on October 6.
During Monday night’s City Council study session, City Planner Kelly Schroeder said that there are eight property owners in Sheridan that have come forward requesting the special exemption.
The City Council will consider the special exemption resolution at their next business meeting on July 7.
