Help SCLT discovery history, in Sheridan’s backyard

According to Sheridan Community Land Trust, cursory examinations of portions of the SCLT Big Goose Natural Area have revealed artifacts that are believed to have links to Sheridan’s history.
SCLT wanted to get the community involved in a one-of-a-kind Discovery Session that involves unearthing Sheridan County’s past.
Residents who take part in the Discovery Session will join a team of qualified archaeologists from Cultural Resource Analysts, Inc., in Sheridan to conduct an archaeological survey of the SCLT Big Goose Natural Area.
While appearing on Sheridan Media’s Public Pulse, SCLT Director of Marketing and Development Chris Vrba said this is an amazing one-of-kind opportunity to take part in a real archeological survey.

By joining Unearthing Our Past, participants will be actively helping to discover stories of Sheridan County’s past today, so they can be preserved and studied.
The team from Cultural Resource Analysts will conduct a short educational session where participants will learn how to conduct an archaeological survey and see examples of artifacts you may find. Then, participants will put those skills to use as the group breaks into teams to survey the entire property. SCLT staff anticipate the survey will take 4-6 hours, depending on the number of participants. Sign up by clicking here.
Unearthing Our Past begins at 9 a.m. Saturday, May 17, at the SCLT Big Goose Natural Area, located at 14 Lane Ln., in Sheridan.
