The Sheridan County Board of County Commissioners (BOCC) have opened the application process for organizations to request General Purpose Excise Tax (GPET) funding for Fiscal Year 2025-26.

Applications can be found on the county website, and will be accepted through Wednesday, April 30.

The General Purpose Excise Tax, also known as the Optional One-Cent tax, is a sales and use tax that is collected and then allocated to organizations by the BOCC.

We have provided a link to the application here:

Paying taxes is Never “Optional.” And the use of the term “cent” is a deliberate attempt to deceive voters into believing the tax only taxes a “cent” from us.
While in fact, the Excess tax is “one percent” on all goods and services sold in Sheridan County.
Buy a $50,000 truck and you are forced to pay an additional $500 dollars in just the One Percent Excess Tax.
So, calling it the “Optional One-cent” is a deliberate deception and lie to the public.
Mandatory one-percent EXCESS Tax is more accurate and honest.
And all we have to do in ’26, is vote against re-imposing this unnecessary, highest sales excess tax in Wyoming and we can liberate ourselves from This Excessively High Tax!
Just 1,000 more “Lower Taxes Are Better” smart voters and we’ll drop the tax to a reasonable 5%.

The Generally (mis)Purposed Excess Sales Tax, has become a burden on hard-working citizens.
This, highest in Wyoming, EXCESS Sales Tax, has long been a “slush fund” that politicians use to dole out to various special interest voter groups….in exchange for votes.
Like the dog shelter? Here’s some cash….and remember to vote for me.
Next year, we can simply vote ourselves a lower, more affordable 5-cent sales tax.
    Who doesn’t like lower taxes?

Always remember: You only have to pay the Generally Mis-purposed Excess Tax, if you shop in Sheridan county!
Go any cardinal direction out of Sheridan county and you pay a lower sales tax.
The “Shop Elsewhere” campaign is our next option, if we can’t get rid of the Excess 1%.
Or maybe just stop shopping. Go for a walk. Read a book. Talk to a friend. There are thousands of fun things to do that are not taxed.
