Sheridan Memorial Hospital Opens New Pediatric Unit

Sheridan Memorial Hospital is now a little more kid and family friendly, the next time youngsters have to stay there.
The hospital has opened its new 5-bed pediatric unit on the south side of the building, where the pharmacy used to be located.
It’s part of the hospital’s redesign project, as it works on putting in its new Behavioral Health facility.
Hospital CEO Mike McCafferty says the idea behind the new pediatric unit is so when a young patient has to stay at the hospital, it feels like less of a typical hospital stay.
“There’s a family and playroom type space, which is really good where kids can get out of their rooms with their families and kind of not be holed up in their room. We’ve got 2 ligature-free rooms which really create a safe environment for kids if they’re in a situation where they might want to do harm to themselves and so it really creates a safe environment for them and for our staff to care for them.”
McCafferty says the existing pediatric unit will be renovated and work will also be done on the southern portion of the hospital’s inpatient wing, which will eventually become the home of the Behavioral Health facility.

As a long time former employee of the hospital and a Registered Nurse, this unit is beautiful. We had moved into the “ new /current “ Pediatric dept back in 2000 I believe and I worked as a Pediatric Nurse for 20 years and several other departments in the hospital. Pediatrics was always my favorite.
