Jo Co Commission OKs Forming Semiquincentennial Committee

At their regular meeting Tuesday morning, the Johnson County Commission approved a Resolution to accept funding for a celebration and form a county Semiquincentennial Committee.
Commission Chair Bill Novotny talked about what the committee will do.
Novotny explained that the committee will develop a schedule of events and activities; collaborate with other regional and national celebrations; promote educational opportunities and materials to enhance public awareness of American history; seek grants, partnerships and sponsorships in support of the activities; and give regular updates to the commission on their progress.
According to america250.org, July 4, 2026 will mark the 250th anniversary of the signing of Declaration of Independence, with celebrations across the country.
Johnson County will form a committee that will plan and implement local celebrations and events to commemorate the country’s 250th Birthday.
The commissioners voted to appoint Commissioner Steve Kozisek to oversee the project as chairman of the Johnson County Semiquincentennial Committee.
