The Clearmont Town Council held their regular meeting on Monday, Feb. 17.

Mayor Chris Schock reported on the recent WAM Conference, where he attended a speech on homeland security, and said it was eye-opening. The speaker felt that the Chinese are an upcoming threat to the United States.

Schock also talked about the property tax legislation that is being considered by the legislators.

He added he went to meeting of the United States 250th Semi-quincentennial Committee for Sheridan County. In 2026, the United States will celebrate 250 years since the signing of the Declaration of Independence. Schock said that Clearmont would probably have a parade and make Clearmont Day a little bigger than unusual.

Wyoming’s governor appropriated two million dollars for the celebration, and he felt the county commissioners would appropriate $10,000 to the celebration in Sheridan County. He said that Kendrick Mansion plans to participate, and a fireworks display is also being planned.

In unfinished business, the council discussed Water Well #3, and voted to go with option #1, which is to do nothing further on the well casing, but they will install a permanent pump and let it go from there.

Amy Rowe, Clearmont Day Committee member came to ask the council for $500 toward the Clearmont Day Celebration and said that the last planning meeting only four people attended, and she is needing more people to help to plan the celebration. Next Clearmont Day Planning Committee will be held on March 10 at 7 p.m. at the Clearmont Community Center.

The council also voted to purchase a tract of land from Greg and Brenda Michelena. The land includes the town sewer lagoon, and was leased, but the town felt that it would be better to own the land.

One of the ordinances approved on first reading, with a slight change, was the animal control ordinance, which included having 4-H or FFA livestock in the town of Clearmont. At the May 2024 meeting they authorized 4-H or FFA livestock during the summer. Auzqui read the ordinance.

Sheridan County Sheriff Levi Dominguez was at the meeting, and Mayor Schock asked him about the bill to Repeal Gun Free Zones. Dominguez also talked about concealed carry in Wyoming.

Town Hall will be closed on Friday, Feb. 28, and the next meeting will be March 17 at 6 p.m.
