Pat BlairThe staff of Sheridan County School District 1 will benefit from additional insurance funds in the year that starts on July 1.
At their meeting earlier this week, the district’s trustees learned that, through a combination of additional funds from the state of Wyoming and a 3 percent decrease in premiums, the district will have an additional $180,000 in revenues in the year ahead.
District Superintendent Pete Kilbride said the premium reduction is the result of fewer insurance claims during the past year.
To help decide how the money will be used, the district’s IBN Committee – a team consisting of teachers, administrators and classified staff – met earlier and made recommendations to be considered by trustees at their meeting this week.
Kilbride said the $180,000 will be all be spent in health insurance only.
Trustees voted to accept the IBN team’s recommendation. As a result, Kilbride said, the entire $180,000 will be distributed across the entire district to help staff cover the cost of their insurance premiums.
