While appearing on Sheridan Media’s Public Pulse, Sheridan County Sheriff Levi Dominguez thanked the Sheridan County communities for their continued support of local law enforcement.

Dominguez said despite major incidents that took place in Sheridan County over the 2024 year, he was very pleased with the proactive approach to law enforcement over the past year.

Although many numbers from the 2024 year are still being collected, the SO increased patrols through the County’s communities this year and traffic stops increased by 27%. The Detention Center saw an increase in the average daily population by 12%.

Dominguez said one of his primary focuses in 2025 is recruitment and retention for the Sheriff’s Office. He was pleased to report a fully staffed Detention Center saw no transfers and retained staff this year which eases the workload on others in the office. Although the SO currently has two patrol positions open, Dominguez feels ground has been gained.

The SO and Sheridan Police Department signed memorandums of understanding this year with Sheridan College allowing deputies and officers looking for extra hours to be dedicated to securing the campus at no additional cost to the taxpayer.

No additional cost to the taxpayer ? How does that work? The community college receives tax payer money. It’s still paid for by taxes rather it comes from the sheriff or college.
