A Resolution to form a committee in Sheridan County to organize celebrations and events during the nation’s 250th Birthday on July 4, 2026 failed by a vote of the Sheridan County Commission this week.

County Administrative Director Cameron Duff gave details on the plan for forming the committee during the commission’s meeting Tuesday.

Commissioner Holly Jennings explained why she would be voting against the

Resolution.

Commissioner Nick Siddle said the state funding had already been allocated for the events, and although he didn’t necessarily disagree with Jennings’ position, he thought by not having semiquincentennial events during the celebration would give the county a “black eye.”

The Resolution vote was 2-2 with Siddle and Chairman Lonnie Wright voting for, and commissioners Jennings and Michael Arzy voting against.

Commissioner Christi Haswell was not in attendance at the meeting.
