Sheridan Mayor Rich Bridger and Public Works Director Hans Mercer made an appearance on Sheridan Media’s Public Pulse, in part, to speak on the Landfill Remediation Project.

The existing Landfill Waste Excavation project began in November 2024, and substantial completion is anticipated to be in November 2025.

Mercer said the effort will be dealing with landfill cells that were originally filled and buried in the 1970s. Those cells will be excavated and relocated to cells lined with a special material that isolates the decomposing refuse and filters the waste water to pipes. That waste water, known as leachate, will then be treated much like city wastewater.

Once the leachate is treated it will be placed in an evaporation pond.
