The coming of the New Year is a cause to celebrate. The Sheridan County Commissioners would like to remind residents that during this New Year’s holiday the use of Fireworks is limited to 6 a.m. Dec. 31, until 2 a.m. on Jan. 1, except for permitted Supervised Public Displays.

Fireworks are not permitted on County land, its roads, easements, or within 50 ft. of any occupied structure without permission of the owner. Residents are being asked to be mindful of neighbors, livestock, pets, and wildlife when properly using fireworks. The commissioners ask that people please watch fireworks fall-out zones as embers can start fires especially in dry grass.

If residents plan to have a bonfire to celebrate the new year, please follow Sheridan County’s posted advice.

Prior to any planned burning, please notify the Dispatch Center at 307-672-2413 so the fire department doesn’t show up uninvited. Please keep fires at least 15 ft. from flammables. Check the weather forecast for warnings and avoid burning if increased winds or dry conditions are predicted. The county is asking to please have fire tools, water, and a phone readily available. Do not delay calling for help if the burn gets out of hand. Early response can minimize control efforts and potential damage and please do not leave your fires unattended.
