In 2005, the Sheridan Green House was founded with the mission to provide long term care for Sheridan’s seniors in loving homes where every person lives a dignified, fulfilling life.

The Green House began and continues under a 501c3, Alternative Elder Living, Inc., and through the residents, volunteers and a partnership with the City of Sheridan, the Green House was created and thrived. Sheridan is the first community in the nation to create Green House homes through the will of committed and passionate citizens that believed in the mission.

But the COVID-19 pandemic played havoc with many aspects of everyday lives and especially to organizations that offered live-in  long term health care. Infrastructure was strained, supply chains suffered major interruptions and funding models that had lasted years ran dry. The Green House entered into a time of financial instability. Dedicated board members tightened belts and staff gave time and energy to care for residents of the Green House.

In May of 2024, the Green House partnered with Sheridan Memorial Hospital. Facilities were revitalized. Staff came under management of SMH and were increased and the Green House blossomed. Much of the administrative management regarding staff and facilities is now performed under the SMH umbrella, freeing up staff to care for Green House residents.

Sheridan Green House Executive Director Tonya Carlson and Administrative Coordinator Julie Mason made an appearance on Sheridan Media’s Public Pulse and said the Green House is a different kind of long term care community.

Each cottage is a home and staff work to ensure the residents feel independent but cared for everyday.

Mason enjoys giving tours of the cottages and meeting new potential residents before moving into a room. She works to create a new and modern outlook on the Green House, a place to not only live but continue to thrive, learn and remain active.
