Aaron PalmerSheridan County’s Commissioners, during their last meeting, ratified a letter from the commission to Wyoming State Forester Kelly Norris requesting continued access to Fire Suppression Activity Repair Funds from the The Emergency Fire Suppression (EFSA) Account.
According to the letter, winter weather has hindered repair efforts on the areas affected by this fall’s Elk Fire, and the county is asking for further access to the funds to continue repair efforts in the spring and summer of 2025.
Repairs still needing to be done include repair of roughly 25 miles of fireline; restoration of damaged fences; road and trail restoration and maintenance; and erosion control.
The county estimated the costs for the repair efforts at $117,000 for equipment, personnel time, and supplies.
They have asked for access to funding through June 30, 2025.
According to wyoleg.gov, the Emergency Fire Suppression Account (EFSA) is a fund used by the state of Wyoming to pay for fire suppression costs on state and county lands.
