The Hub on Smith Director of Operations Ryan Landis and Daybreak Director Barb Blue made an appearance on Sheridan Media’s Public Pulse to talk about the recent 50th Anniversary Party that took place at the Hub and talk a little on one of the Hub’s most successful programs.
According to Landis, the party drew more than 400 people from the community.

Now located in an adjacent building, Day Break has been a program at the Hub since 1992. This service is not only valuable for those who attend Day Break, but for their caregivers and loved ones as well.
Day Break provides a break from the important, yet strenuous, tasks of taking care of someone. According to the Hub, it plays a critical role in keeping people in their homes and out of long-term care.
Blue has been a part of the program since 1995. When she first began, the staff was only made up of two people. That has since doubled to four.
With the addition of “Me Sheets” clients have their experiences personalized for them. Staff learn the clients interests, their former career(s) and then cater certain activities to meet those interests.
It’s not only staff that give their time to clients. Blue said many volunteers from the later generations come to the Day Break building and enjoy taking part in the activities. The program also gives clients an opportunity to volunteer for their community.

It is easy to see why Day Break is one of the first and longest lasting programs at the Hub. For Blue, it’s a club full of friends that continue to learn and laugh while also helping to refill the cup of caregivers.
