Johnson County’s Commissioners have sent a letter to Volunteers of America of the Northern Rockies expressing concern over the loss of mental health services in Johnson County, and the lack of communication between the organization and the county commission.

In the letter, dated September 19, the county outlined the apparent vacancy of the director of the Buffalo Mental Health Center and the failure to communicate, as well as concern over the lack of mental health services for the county since the takeover of supplying those services by VOA.

The letter also states that the county commission believes that VOA is “not meeting the spirit of” and is in breach of contract with the Wyoming Department of Health for not providing these services to the county.

The commission has extended a request for VOA to present to them their current services provided and to outline their plan to provide these services moving forward.

According to Commission Chair Bill Novotny, VOA so far has not responded to the letter.
