Ron RichterA bid award for the City of Sheridan Solid Waste Disposal Facility Existing Landfill Waste Excavation Project was an item of discussion at Monday night’s Sheridan City Council study session.
According to City Utilities Director Dan Roberts, in 2015 the City entered into the State of Wyoming’s Landfill Remediation Program, which is a partnership between the State of Wyoming and Landfill Operators to assess the impacts that unlined landfill cells are having on groundwater which is migrating off landfill sites at contamination levels that are above Wyoming’s groundwater protection standards.
Once the impacts are assessed and confirmed, measures to eliminate these groundwater impacts are to be identified, evaluated, and ultimately the best remedy designed and constructed.
Roberts said the Landfill Remediation Program provides 75 percent of the funding and requires the landfill operator, which in this case is the City of Sheridan, to be responsible for the remaining 25 percent of the project costs.
The recommendation from City staff is for the Mayor and City Council to award the bid for the project to Dan Hart Patrol Service, LLC in an amount of just over $5 million. The bid award will be considered by the Council at their next regular business meeting.
