cvannoyThe regular meeting of the SCSD #3 School Board was held on September 11. Superintendent Chase Christensen joined the group via zoom.
Attending the meeting was James Seckman of Seckman and Thomas, CPAs, who completed the audit for the school. As this is the first year this firm has worked with Arvada-Clearmont, Seckman went into a little more detail with the board. He said the audit was clean, and added this about SCSD #3.
Christensen thanked Seckman for the efficiency of his team, who worked to get the audit back to the school so quickly. “I certainly prefer to be meeting the state’s deadlines rather than asking for extensions. I think you’ve done a good job and look forward to working with you in the future.”
There was a question from Trustee Trinity Lewis about the sprinklers not working on the lawn, and Christensen addressed the problem, saying the irrigation system is old and is on the list to be repaired or replaced.
There was some discussion about giving students the option to learn about job opportunities Chase said they are working to boost what collaboration can do with the employers in the county.
Christensen talked about several projects the school is working on, one is redoing the parking lot, and the contractor asked if they could work on weekends to avoid disrupting the school as much as possible. He added that he is excited about them getting started on it and that they are mindful of the fact this is a school.
He mentioned the greenhouse project he said the materials should arrive around October 15, and they are looking at possibly the paving company doing the concert pad for the greenhouse as well.
The school also ordered a water filtration system from Water Products to filter water for the boiler as well as possibly delivering filtered water to drinking fountains and ice maker as well.
He talked more about the irrigation system, they are deciding if the old system can be redone, or if a new system is necessary, as the old system is over 30 years old and many of the components are not available.
Another project Christensen addressed was the tree planting.
Christensen added there has been no offer yet on the Arvada School building, but some people have done a walk-through so there is some interest.
The board also discussed finding a date for the upcoming community listening session to be held in October.
