The summer traveling season is nearing an end, and it’s starting to look like this year will be the 2nd busiest year on record at the Nation’s First National Park.

The park reports there were 871,163 recreational visits in August 2024.

That’s up 3% compared to August of last year when there were 846, 389 visits.

As of the end of August, the park has had 3,497,254 visits for this year, which is up 6% from this time last year, when there were 3,308,924 visits, but this year’s numbers are down from this time in 2021 when there were 3,590,609 visits.

That year is still the busiest year on record for Yellowstone.

The park says in September, boating services on Yellowstone Lake and various campgrounds start their seasonal closure, and some animals will start to prepare for their upcoming winter hibernation.

Various roads within the park will start closing for the upcoming winter season next month.
