“Bighorn Rendezvous IX” Exhibition at The Brinton Museum

The Brinton Museum in Big Horn, Wyoming presents the exhibition Bighorn Rendezvous IX, featuring new works by 18 award-winning artists, including: Roger Broer (Oglala Lakota; Hill City, SD); Tammy Callens (Driggs, ID); Karen Conduff (Boulder, CO); Donald Demers (S. Berwick, ME); Jessica GarrettLawrence (Buckeye, AZ); Daniel Glanz (Loveland, CO); Tony Hochstetler (Frederick, CO); Jacqueline Jones (S. Berwick, ME); Jim Jurosek (Sheridan, WY); Tom Lockhart (Colorado Springs, CO); David Mensing (Sisters, OR); Anton Nowels (Phoenix, AZ); Joel Ostlind (Big Horn, WY); John Potter (Anishinaabe; Red Lodge, MT); John Taft (Longmont, CO); Gabrielle Reeves (Casper, WY); Jim Trapp (St. Louis, MO); and Scott Yeager (Woodland Park, CO).

The Brinton Museum’s inaugural Bighorn Rendezvous event took place in 2016 comprised of an exhibition of art by members of the Northwest Rendezvous Group of Artists and Guests. This program included a Saturday morning quick-draw on the grounds followed by a dinner and art sale. The tradition continues with the invited artists listed above featured in an art exhibition opening to the public on July 13.

A Quick-draw and Family-Fun activities, offered free and open to the public, will happen on August 24. A ticketed Dinner & Art Auction to benefit the museum and the artists takes place the same evening. Reservations for the Dinner & Art Auction can be made online at thebrintonmuseum.org

Participating Bighorn Rendezvous artist Joel Ostlind is highlighted as a featured artist who has long been an important figure in the history of The Brinton Museum. He has exhibited his art in numerous Brinton shows including a one-person exhibition in 2004. He has presented several printmaking demos and workshops and was more recently featured in the one-person exhibition Linework to Linen: The Prints and Paintings of Joel Ostlind in 2019.

A limited edition letterpress book Pressed For Art: Etchings by Joel Ostlind accompanied this program and is still available in the Brinton Museum Store. Ostlind is represented in numerous private collections, as well as public collections including the National Museum of Wildlife Art in Jackson (WY) and the prestigious Art in Embassies Program, a public-private partnership that promotes cultural diversity through exhibitions, permanent collections, site-specific commissions and two-way artist exchanges in more than 200 U.S. Embassies and Consulates around the world.

The Brinton Museum’s permanent collection includes an almost complete set of Ostlind’s intaglios. Joel Ostlind will present a demo at the museum on the process of preparing an intaglio plate for printing on August 25, beginning at 2 PM. This program is free to the public.
