Many caregivers in the community have stepped-up to fill the role for a family member or even friends when there may have been no one else; taking on responsibilities and watching over their loved one 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.
The Hub on Smith has a devoted team that helps with resources, develops programs and works to find those caregivers respite. Hub on Smith Family Care Coordinator Emily Gorham-Keith, told listeners of Sheridan Media’s Public Pulse that the age of the individual receiving care is not a factor, the Hub’s Family Caregiver Support is for everyone providing care to a family member.

The Hub’s team is working to rid the community of the stigma that one must take on the responsibilities of caregiving alone.

Gorham-Keith and the team at the Hub are inviting those who have been caregivers and caregivers to a picnic to facilitate conversations, remove stigma and provide information. The picnic is an opportunity to learn about options, education and other community resources, respite and share experiences.
